What do you enjoy about working for the Commission?
“My favorite part about working at the Commission is the camaraderie and collaboration between staff at all levels and across the different program offices. No matter what the issue is, people go out of their way to help you resolve it. The Commission also has a flat organizational structure, so everyone’s opinions and contributions are taken seriously by management.”
Tell us about the project you are currently working on?
“I am currently reviewing financial accounting information filed by transmission companies to ensure that the calculations to come up with rates charged to customers are transparent and according to the Commission's regulations. My weekly schedule changes from week to week, but it is usually a combination of internal team meetings, reviewing filings made by jurisdictional companies, and conference calls with jurisdictional companies to resolve outstanding issues with their filings.”
What advice do you have for jobseekers interested in a career with FERC?
“FERC is made up of staff from various educational backgrounds. As long as you have an interest in the energy industry and public service, there are opportunities here. My advice to any jobseeker interested in FERC would be to familiarize yourself with the history and role of FERC in the industry, and to have a general idea of which aspects of the industry interest you.”
