FERC Chairman Willie Phillips today named Nicole Sitaraman Director of the Commission’s Office of Public Participation (OPP).

Sitaraman has been Acting Director of the office since March 2023, and joined FERC as Deputy Director of OPP in February 2022. Under her leadership, OPP has participated in more than 300 meetings and events with constituents around the country, developed video workshops on FERC procedures, developed educational resource documents and conducted direct, expanded outreach to constituents in several proceedings around the country.

Sitaraman has significant experience in energy policy, environmental justice, consumer advocacy and stakeholder engagement. Before joining FERC, she served as Vice President of External Affairs and Policy at Sustainable Capital Advisors. Prior to that, she served as Senior Manager of Public Policy at Sunrun, Inc. Sitaraman also served as an Assistant People’s Counsel in the Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia.

Sitaraman is an advisory board member at the Yale Center for Business and Environment and has been recognized for her work by Grist.org, We Act for Environmental Justice and Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law.
