Nicole Sitaraman was appointed to serve as Director of the Office of Public Participation (OPP) in May 2024. Ms. Sitaraman joined the Commission as the inaugural Deputy Director of OPP in February 2022 and served as Acting Director of the office from March 2023 through April 2024. She has 20 years of experience in litigation, consumer and civil rights advocacy, energy policy and stakeholder engagement.

Prior to joining FERC, she served in legal and policy advocacy roles such as Vice President of External Affairs and Policy at Sustainable Capital Advisors, Senior Manager of Public Policy at Sunrun, and Assistant People’s Counsel in the Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia.

Ms. Sitaraman has received honors from We Act for Environmental Justice, Grist.org and Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE). Ms. Sitaraman serves on the Advisory Board of the Yale Center for Business and the Environment. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University in 2000 and J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 2004.
