Nicole Sitaraman is the Acting Director of the Office of Public Participation, working in this role since February 2022. Ms. Sitaraman has over 15 years of experience in consumer and civil rights advocacy, energy legislative and regulatory affairs and stakeholder engagement.  Prior to joining the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, she served in legal and policy advocacy roles such as Vice President of External Affairs and Policy at Sustainable Capital Advisors, Senior Manager of Public Policy at Sunrun, and Assistant People’s Counsel in the Office of the People’s Counsel for the District of Columbia. She began working on energy and climate justice issues after serving as an attorney at one of the nation’s leading civil rights litigation firms.

Over the course of her career, Ms. Sitaraman has provided strategic guidance for several climate, clean energy and environmental justice organizations.  Her thought leadership has been featured in various publications including Forbes, Grist, PV Magazine and AFRO News. Ms. Sitaraman earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University in 2000 and J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 2004.
