The Solicitor's Office, in the Office of the General Counsel, represents the Commission in court on judicial review of Commission orders and initiatives.  It is responsible for the preparation and presentation of legal documents, pleadings, and arguments, in defense of Commission decisions, primarily in the U.S. Courts of Appeals.  In all matters before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Solicitor’s office coordinates with the Solicitor General within the U.S. Department of Justice; other matters may also involve coordination with the Department of Justice.  Judicial review of Commission orders and initiatives is governed by federal statutes, primarily the Federal Power Act, 16 U.S.C. § 825l(b), the Natural Gas Act, 15 U.S.C. § 717r(b), and the Interstate Commerce Act, 28 U.S.C. § 2343-44.
