The Division of Dam Safety and Inspections has completely revised the Engineering Guideline for Arch Dams. The revision reflects the most current thinking and practices of the Division of Dam Safety and Inspections. The issuance of the new guideline should not be construed as a requirement for re-analysis of all arch dams. The new guideline is much more focused on failure modes. Any analysis, investigation, or study must be done in the context of the failure modes of concern.

The revised Chapter 11 discusses the following:

  • Foundation Considerations
  • Concrete Material Parameters
  • Loading
  • Analysis Techniques
  • Instrumentation
  • Historic Dam Incidents
  • Foundation Rock Erodibility

Any comments and suggestions on the guideline can be sent and copied to Erin Williams.
