Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Neil Chatterjee announced today that the FERC Commission Meeting Room at the agency’s Washington, D.C., headquarters will be named in honor of former Chairman Kevin J. McIntyre, who passed away January 2.
“It is only fitting that we name this room for Kevin, our former Chairman and colleague, who did so much during his tenure here to exemplify what it means to be a true public servant, regardless of the challenges faced,” Chairman Chatterjee said.
“His leadership was and remains an inspiration not only to me, but to the entire FERC family, and we believe this is the most appropriate way for us to honor his memory.” Chairman McIntyre was named FERC Chairman by President Donald J. Trump, and joined the Commission on December 7, 2017.
He served as Chairman until October 24, 2018, and served as a Commissioner until his passing.
During his term as Chairman, he spearheaded several major initiatives, including a proceeding on resilience of the wholesale electricity grid, an inquiry into whether to revise the Commission’s pipeline certification process, and an agreement with the Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to coordinate the siting and safety review of FERC-jurisdictional LNG facilities.
Prior to joining the Commission, Chairman McIntyre was the co-leader of the global Energy Practice at the law firm Jones Day, where he practiced for the majority of his nearly 30-year legal career.
At Jones Day, he had an expansive FERC practice, counseling and representing clients in nearly all energy industry sectors, including natural gas, conventional electricity, oil, hydropower, wind power and other renewable resources, and energy marketing and trading. His work for energy clients spanned administrative and appellate litigation, compliance and enforcement matters, and corporate transactions.
