The FERC Division of Dam Safety and Inspections started a new program in 2014 of offering owners and operators of hydroelectric dams an introductory workshop on dam safety. It is intended for all dam owners including smaller utilities and owners of one dam. The Portland workshop will cover how each type of dam maintains stability and can fail, historical failures, how to monitor dams to prevent failures, and how to reduce the consequences of a potential failure by having an effective Emergency Action Plan. Questions and Discussion will be encouraged.
