In support of its vital role in overseeing the interstate transmission of electricity and natural gas with a mission of ensuring reliable, safe, sustainable, and economically efficient energy for consumers at a reasonable cost, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is pleased to announce today the release of its Second Equity Action Plan.

The Second Equity Action Plan responds to Executive Orders 13895: Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government and 14091: Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government. The Plan highlights the following strategies intended to advance equity in the context of the Commission’s mission and goals:

  1. Enhance Awareness of Commission Activities and Opportunities for Public Participation
  2. Strengthen Tribal Consultation and Engagement
  3. Ensure Project Certification and Siting Policies and Processes are Consistent with Environmental Justice
  4. Foster Staff Equity Readiness
  5. Advance Equity in Federal Procurement

The Commission will implement its Plan to address barriers and expand opportunities to all communities while focusing on underserved and overburdened communities. The Commission looks forward to continuing the vital work of improving on environmental justice and implementing the mission and objectives in a way that is fair and equitable to all.”
